This weekend I was fortunate to be a part of the Albany Center Gallery's satellite exhibit at the Times Union Home Expo! Out of three works submitted, one was selected for the show. It was a fun change of pace to see an art show surrounded by commercial booths and I really enjoyed the event. The painting shown is "Where Does It Fit?", a 2014 oil on canvas work that is for sale.

So glad to be back in the studio after the winter break! I have been fortunate to move into a different studio with this gorgeous, roomy space; I can't wait to fill it up with new work.
Stay tuned for updates on new work- I've gone back into several old paintings, am starting more etchings, and I have several exciting experiments in mind for the next few weeks. This should be a busy and productive last semester of my Master's degree, and I'm looking forward to my thesis exhibition in May.
A few months ago I applied for a Graduate Research Grant through The College of Saint Rose. My proposal, Intersections between Painting and Printmaking: An Investigation of Disjointed Spaces, detailed my plans for a body of work that I'd recently started. The process of writing the proposal was a great challenge to concisely explain my work and the type of media and visual vocabulary that I wanted to focus on. I got the grant! These upcoming few weeks I'll be making more works that dabble across disciplinary lines and merge abstraction with representation in these spaces. I'll be submitting this new work to shows and galleries, as well as selecting the best works for the Graduate Thesis Exhibition in May - lots to look forward to!
This week I've been helping out in the Esther Massry Gallery at The College of Saint Rose. It's been wonderful watching and assisting visiting artist Daniella Dooling with the installation of her show and of this piece- a site-specific work called 3459 Macomb Street. More information about her show and upcoming lecture can be found here. The semester ended a few weeks ago, but I've been lucky to be able to get into my studio once a week or so to continue working. It'll be nice to have a break from my work, but I know I'll miss it during my time as the Media Coordinator at a YMCA camp this summer. Here is my space and a few unresolved paintings - I can't wait to get back to work in September! What are your thoughts on taking a break from working? Refreshing or disorienting? I'm excited to have added lots more recent work to the site- including several drawings! You can see these under the Drawings subcategories in 2013 and 2014. Most are experiments and more a part of the process than any important end product at this point. What do you think? Check out the new paintings added to the 2014 |
